SÃO PAULO ___ Re-imagining Infrastructure

Brazil, Civic, Overview, Sao Paulo

After a failed attempt to swim in the pool at Lina Bo Bardi’s SESC Pompeia (apparently “Open to all the Public” actually means “Open to all the Public*”), a friend and I strolled through Barra Funda over to check out a different sort of pool at the Minhocão.

*who have a membership card and have taken all the required exams to ensure adequate fitness and health for the pool; also probably you need a swim cap.

Minhocão

Monday through Saturday, the Minhocão (officially known as the Via Elevada Presidente Costa e Silva) is packed with cars like most any other street in São Paulo.  But on Sundays this elevated highway is closed to traffic and transforms into an impromptu public promenade.  It just so happened that on this Sunday local architect Luana Geiger’s installation “Piscina no Minhocão” (postponed from a Dec 1 opening) was there to offer a very different, very urban swimming experience.
